Brazil and China Working to Strengthen Relationship
The Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff received the official visit of the Chinese Vice-Premier Wang Qishan. Dilma said that both countries should continue the process of strengthening the relationship between the two countries, and that the political trust increases together with the connection between countries, which is considered strategically important. China surpassed the United States in 2009 and became the major trade partner of Brazil.
According to Dilma the cooperation in trade, investment, science and technology has increased significantly since 2006, when both countries started discussing cooperation agreements. Both countries have common interests and there are many prospects for the cooperation between them. Dilma reinforced that the two countries should develop the cooperation among emerging economies in order to promote the world economic growth and recovery.
Brazil currently sells massive amounts of food commodities and raw materials to China, and is looking forward to increase the sales of manufactured products to China. During the meetings Brazilian representatives requested China to voluntarily reduce the exports to Brazil, in order to protect the local manufacturing sector.
